Sewing the Darcey bra style 1 (Evie La Luve)
Here is finally the Darcey Bra style 1… after sewing the Darcey bra style 2 and my favorite Darcey bra style 3. It’s about time! As you may have gathered, the style 1 was not my favorite style to begin with. But when you like a pattern, you like it and you have to test all its variations.

Sew your bras in batch
Sometimes I want to make something but not necessarily sew… so I cut some scraps to make 2 hats and 2 Darceys.
Honestly, I don’t know if I saved any time but at least I didn’t lose any…. Instead of procrastinating on Instagram, I moved forward with 4 projects.
The Darcey bra style 1 pattern
Style 1 of the Darcey bra is the simplest version to sew… and the most demure.
There are only 3 pieces to cut in main fabric and lining:
- front middle
- front side
- back
For the rest, I have already described the Darcey bra pattern for style 2 and style 3.
The pattern is very well explained, the lengths of elastic are specified, the ideal project to start sewing lingerie.
Sewing the Darcey Bra style 1
For this version, I brought a touch of whimsy to the very demure style 1 with an elastic sequin piping found at Mercerine.
The elastic piping is sewn like a picot elastic:
- A first seam from the back of the elastic against the right side of the bra, side without decoration along the edge of the fabric.
- A small zig-zag flush with the decoration and then back to the wrong side.
- We finish with a zig-zag (3 points if available on your machine) on the right side.
I didn’t lined the back pieces because my ponte is nice and thick, very stretchy and quite firm. It gives a good support.
However, it doesn’t prevent to enclose all the seams neatly for a soft & clean interior.
The viscose jersey inside is a good choice because it is soft against the skin.
Conclusion
The Darcey Bra style 1 looked a little mormon to me at first, but in the end, it’s nice and very comfortable.
The very stretchy and firm eye ponte fabric offers more support than the cotton & mesh jerseys used in previous versions. The shape is also very supportive.
