Sewing the Plume panties (Etoffe Malicieuse)
Never 2 without 3… The Plume panties is my 3rd model of sewn panties by Étoffe Malicieuse.
And it was a good thing because I needed to sew the little friend of my hacked Bohemian bra. Because as long as you are sewing your bras… you might as well have the matching set.

The Plume panties pattern
The Plume panties are the ideal panties to use a nice stretch lace.
The back of the panties is entirely made of lace with a center back seam … and don’t worry, it doesn’t itch (trust my hyper-mega-super sensitive skin).
And if the lace band is not wide enough for the whole back piece, don’t worry. Everything is planned with the explanations to insert a small triangle on the back and complete the lace.
To give you an idea, the width needed for a 100% lace back is 21 cm for a size 42.
The ultimate detail is the lace coming up to the front of the panty… which incidentally means there are no side seams.
And as a result, with no elastic on the bottom and no side seams, it is very comfortable. Light as a feather (= plume in French).
Otherwise, the waist height is “normal”. Neither high waist nor low waist. A Norman* waist.
*raised in Normandy for 20 years under drizzle, drizzle and other wet mornings, I have the right to make fun of it っ•ᴥ•ʔっ
Otherwise, I won’t repeat the excellent quality & completeness of Étoffe Malicieuse’s explanations… Go and see my other articles on his patterns if you need to !
The sewing of the Plume panties
Frankly, despite its sophisticated style, it is really a very simple and quick to sew panties.
I have slightly modified the assembly to add a lining to the fishnet on the front. The transparency on a panties front is not really my cup of tea.
After the Envol panties in size 42, slightly tight (but wearable and worn) and the Malicieuse panties in size 44 (a little too big), I thought about drafting a size 43.
But laziness took over and I made a size 44 again.
Not surprisingly, it’s a bit too large. It will be perfect for puffy days. Well yes, you know, those days when you feel puffy and tight in everything.
Some modifications that I will have to decide to make at the same time as size 43: notch up the front curvature for the thigh and reduce the width of the crotch gusset.
Because see, it wrinkles a bit.
Conclusion
Another charming panty model that I am planning to redesign. Just as I was writing this article, I was thinking “oh yes, let’s grab a bit of lace and make myself one as soon as I’m done”.
For a long time I thought that lace panties were uncomfortable and itchy… but it must depend mostly on the quality of the lace. So a model that is quick to sew and very chic is the winning combo.
